Discovered in Czechoslovakia, this is an outstanding addition to the ranks of climbing roses. 'Awakening' is a sport of 'New Dawn' that produces fragrant, old fashioned, 3 1/2" fully quartered blooms of soft, silvery pink with a fresh/sweet fragrance on a continual blooming climber with glossy mid-green foliage.

Two Story High RoseReview by Sandy
I am guessing that most people do not realize the potential size of this rose!
I purchased this rose about 5 years ago; at the time it was probably 1 foot high.....
Placed it in the corner of the yard, facing east/south.
Apparently it was THE ideal location, for in 5 years this rose has grown to a height of
TWO stories and a width of about 10 - 15 feet! I have NEVER seen such a rose! It
blooms heavily in the late Spring/early Summer and is covered with pale pinkish/apricot
color roses; many petals per bloom.
I will have to trim it in early Spring, a task I will reluctantly do.
This is truly a most unusual rose, and very hardy.
Recommend this for use in a location where it can grow to it's heart content! (Posted on 11/27/2013)
Superior Climbing RoseReview by Pastel~Passion
If you want a reliable, disease resistant, climbing rose that will bloom it's heart out for you than this is the beauty to choose. I purchased my 1st Awakening climber from Heirloom Roses several years ago. I planted Awakening about 4 feet away from the base of my Maple tree & am presently training this rose to climb the tree. To say that Awakening can tolerate some shade would be an understatement for me as I've metered the sunlight where this rose is planted & it registers as shade(.) I never spray, dust or use any systemic on this rose...I don't use concoctions/pesticides/toxins as a rule in my garden, but, most of the other roses I do grow will occasionally have aphids & Awakening doesn't. This climbing rose tends to retain it rich~glossy colored green leaves. Awakening truly is pretty both in bloom or with just its greenery. It blooms more than once a season for me & often feels as though it is a continual bloom. And when Awakening blooms, it's not just a few roses here & there as it tends to bloom all over (rather extraordinary for any rose to bloom like this one does in the shade). This is just a pretty rose to have growing in your yard, especially if you have a lot of shaded spots. However it is a climber in ever sense, so you may want to showcase Awakening with good support. Watch out for rabbits as they seem to love Awakening too!
