This plant was going great guns in my San Francisco garden. Here in the Pacific Northwest, it sulked, and was plagued by black spot. I did the unthinkable and yanked it mid-growing season, and shoved it, unceremoniously in a sunnier spot. I also doused it with my worm farm tea, and it completely turned around. It leafed out, shows no black spot, and has put out a few blooms. Might be an issue with the excuse for soil we have up here: grey glacial till. Most of my beds are raised and filled with commercial garden soil, but where I can actually get a shovel in, I will stuff a rose. Still, the same point, though: heavy feeder, but is delightful went properly fed. One of my favorite roses, for the color. (Posted on 8/30/2017)
Gorgeous in every way!Review by "Mo"

An early pick for my new "Rose Garden," and I am just so glad! Even as a baby rose, it
has several blooms at a time. The buds are perfectly formed, and the open flowers are
equally as lovely. I wanted a sampling of colors in this garden, and 'Hot Cocoa' is quite
a standout. It is also well able to handle our Alabama humidity, so I'm not fighting blackspot constantly. Gorgeous, in every way! (Posted on 7/21/2017)

Hot Cocoa has an amazingly different color. It has survived contractors stepping on it, shading it and draining soapy water on it. (Posted on 6/24/2017)

I bought Hot Cocoa two years ago. She had a few flowers last year which were amazingly beautiful. This year Hot Cocoa has many buds. I cut one flower bud and it took a week indoors to fully open. Each day the rose was more lovely than the last. Wow! (Posted on 6/3/2017)

I have greatly enjoyed this rose from the day it first bloomed here. It's smokey color is beautiful and blends well with every other color in my garden. While very thorny, it is a fine cut rose with a lovely fragrance. (Posted on 2/12/2017)

I got Hot Cocoa when it first came out and have loved it ever since. The color is striking and the aroma is wonderful. I use it as a focal point in my rose garden and grow it in large pots.

I love this rose too... the color is uniqueReview by Barbara

I would not be without this rose, even though with my zealous pruning, no spray policy, a terrible tussock moth attack, and time, she is less and less vigorous. Originally though (Northern California, Zone 9b) she was extremely vigorous, despite a tussock moth attack and our drought. I work on the soil rather than on spraying. Hot Cocoa is such a unique colored rose. She is a wonderful addition to my bouquets.

This is one of my favorite roses. The petals are almost velvety to the touch and the color is so rich and doesn't fade. The leaves have a beautiful color and texture also. It doesn't seem to be as prone to rust or other disease, and is one of the best performers in my rose garden of 54 roses. I love it. It is also one of my favorites to photograph.
