Gallicas
Gallicas are the oldest of the garden roses, having been grown by the Greeks and Romans. Later they were bred by the Dutch and French, as many of the names indicate. There are fine varieties with great color range for the old roses: many shades of pink, reds, purples and even crimson-red with stripes. They are heavy bloomers and most are very fragrant. Their compact size makes them suited for small gardens. Gallicas perform best in zones 4 to 8.
