A descendant of Old Blush, The Green Rose (R. Chinensis viridiflora) is one of the most unique roses. This rose is a very hardy China variety first discovered around 1827 and introduced to the public in 1855. The Green Rose actually has no flowers, no petals, and no seeds! This sterile rose has been kept in gardens for centuries by committed growers propagating cuttings and sharing!

The Green Rose is a true mainstay in all of rose history. Instead of petals, it has rows and rows of narrow, leaf-like sepals stacked up which create the floret shape. The Green Rose is often touched with a tint of bronze and in warmer zones can keep its foliage year-round. We love The Green Rose in arrangements for a pop of whimsy.

GREEN!!

40 years ago, my dad and mother took me to the Franklin Park Columbus Zoo and the Botanical Gardarden.

We rounded the Gardarden, and I found the "The Green Rose." The marking said, the that the plant was known for decades.

Years ago, I found the Reagan Nursery, and I bought 2 plants of the "The Green Rose."

I sold my California resident, coming back to Ohio.

Buying 2 "The Green Rose."

Thanks!!

Daddy's favorite

My Daddy's favorite when I was young and I'd like to have one of my own now that I'm getting old and living on my own as a widow.. I will soon be in my mid-90s.

Perfect for a conversation starter

I have always dreamed of having one of these roses since I was little and I saw it in a book. The bright green "flowers" are so unique that they add a festive contrast to your bouquets. I love how the flowers mock a typical rose yet burst outwardly like a firework with small hints of rust red on the edges. I have to keep mine in a pot on the patio due to the weather (where I bring it indoors to avoid the extreme cold) and because this bush is very tasty to deer and rabbits. I recommend having a fence around it if you are going to put it out in the yard. Enjoy this wonderful gem!
