Love this rose. Similar to Princess de Monaco but with heightened fragrance

I am very pleased with this rose. It is similar to Princess de Monaco. In fact, I believe Meilland hybridized it from Princess de Monaco. Large, lovely and fragrant.

Amazing color, continual blooms, strong disease resistance, FAINT SCENT

CHARLESTON, SC: I bought one of these at Lowes before I discovered own root roses through Heirloom Roses. The color is incredibly unique and IMPOSSIBLE to catch in a photo (I have tried many times with my iPhone 5SE). The photos on this website do not even closely resemble the vibrancy in real life. It's almost a glowing neon!!! So 5 stars for sure for color!!! Very prolific bloomer, as well! Almost always has multiple blooms on it. DISEASE RESISTANT!!! Most of the rose varieties I have planted (40+) suffer seriously from black spot in the high humidity of Charleston, South Carolina. I have begun to move to David Austin roses in hopes that they may be more disease resistant. But California Dreamin' has exceptional disease resistance. The blooms are also quite large - very impressive in the high heat and intense sun of Charleston; this is even more impressive since I do not typically water or fertilize my roses (in fact, I typically spend my summer away from my house, and leave the yard to nature!). THE ONLY DOWNSIDE is the scent is very mild. It is marketed as "intense fragrance" but I quite disagree. I seek fragrant roses, and this rose does not deliver. HOWEVER, it's "neon beauty," continual blooming cycle, and exceptional disease resistance has been more than reason enough to keep it at the entrance to my front yard. Beautiful rose. I wonder if I had another strain of the same rose if it would have the "intense fragrance" advertised; but I tend to think not.

Gorgeous huge blooms

This rose is every bit as beautiful as the picture shows. While I did not find the intense fragrance I hoped for, it still has a prime location in my Rosegarden due to the size of the blossoms and the coloring. I do recommend this rose.

HUGE blooms

The biggest blooms ever!! In fact some were so huge the cane could hardly hold it upright. So some of them were facing downward since they were too top heavy. But the color was gorgeous. Not heavy on the fragrance but very disease resistant.
