Type: English Legend

Named to honor the courageous airmen of both the Royal Air Force and the U.S. Army Air Corps who served in WWII. Irresistibly rose/berry perfumed, many petaled old-fashioned style 4" blooms in deep rich red. Robert Harkness in his catalog gives it a fragrance rating of 9 out of 10. We feel that this continually blooming rose should find a place in every garden not only for the quality of the plant and flowers but for the symbolism of its name. May be grown as a shrub or climbing rose similar to 'Westerland'.

Vigorous and prolific with heavenly scent Review by Mary from Tucson
I haven't grown roses since I was a kid back east, but decided to give it a try now that I live in the southwest. Courageous was one of the first 3 Heirloom roses I purchased, and I couldn't be more thrilled. While all 3 (the other are Polka and Teasing Georgia) are thriving after being planted in December as 6" tall "sticks", it is Courageous that has stolen my heart. While still small, today she has 14(!) open roses adorning her and filling the corner of the garden she's in with her heavenly scent. I've already cut at least 10 roses from her to put in bud vases, and she responds by putting out yet more buds. If this is the performance and beauty I can anticipate over the years from Courageous, I will be over the moon! Thank you, Heirloom Roses! (Posted on 4/8/2016)
Healthy and richly scentedReview by Stephanie
I planted 'Courageous' in 2008 as a 6 inch "baby" and have watched it grow into a healthy, vigorous, mature plant. Wandering my garden, I am continually enchanted by the scent of its beautiful red flowers from even 15 feet away. This Spring, 3 half-inch thick canes grew from the base and one of them is already 5 feet tall with buds about ready to burst open. After its first flush each season, the flowers are continuous as are the buds that hold all the promises this rose delivers. If scent is something you value in a rose, 'Courageous' is for you. Additionally, it is even more beautiful in person than it is in its photo. (Posted on 6/28/2013)
Prolific and Wonderful ScentReview by Stephanie
I am a fan of Heirloom Roses in general and 'Courageous' in particular. I planted this rose in 2008, which started out as a 6 inch "baby" and has grown into a prolific, mature plant about 4 feet tall. I am constantly enchanted by the beautiful red blooms that scent the breeze from 15 feet away. Since its first heavy flush in March, the plant has been in constant flower, with buds showing the promise of more to come. Three brand new thick canes came up this year from the base, showing its vigor and health. If rose scent is important to you, you will not be disappointed with 'Courageous'. Additionally, the color is even prettier than its picture. (Posted on 6/27/2013)
