Frida Kahlo Truly Original

Just like her namesake, this rose is truly original! I am in Zone 9 and within one month of planting her in a half wine barrel, she had multiple blooms coming. I have multiple wine barrels spread along a fence and the two Frida's are companion roses to two going on 3 year old Hot Cocoa roses. This makes a very pleasing contrasting combination along the fence line.

My most prolific rose!

It was a rough start for my two Frida's, and I was convinced they weren't going to make it. Planted fall 2021 in pots on my front porch, zone 7a, they were looking sickly by spring 2022, despite plenty of compost and mulch. I cut them back to near nothing, fertilized, threw every banana peel to come from my kitchen in the pots and let them be. By mid-summer 2022 they both had so many blooms I lost count. We are now one year in (officially), late October, and there are probably 25 blooms on each, plus buds still coming. I haven't cut anything off since summer deadheading, and they just won't quit. 3 feet wide and 2.5 feet tall each, they have turned out to be the best performers I have out of roughly 30 rose bushes. You need her! Buy her!

I have high hopes!

This rose is gorgeous! I had originally put in in the front garden in too much shade…AND we had a very cold and wet spring with late March frosts. Despite this, it is still hanging on! My sister is much more familiar with roses and she suggested we move FK. to a sunnier spot with less competition. I am very excited to see her flourish and will post an update!

As unique and special as it's name sake

I'll be honest. Say the name Frida Kahlo and you have my attention. Having said that, I find this rose to be quite special. The Color starts with a warm orange red glow and deepens to a beautiful cherry red maintaining many of it's stripes throughout the blooming process. The flower last long and never fade until the las petal drops. I am in Northern California and here this rose has proven to be hardy and manageable (growth is steady and not overwhelming at all). The fragrance is light to moderate but beautiful to experience. I'm a fan of this rose (and like all the ones that fascinate me, I'm sure I'll be buying a backup :).

Stunning Rose

I absolutely LOVE this rose, it is abundant in my garden and has survived the brutal zone 6 winters of upstate, Western NY, blackspot, and whiteflies. She is not only colorful with incredible dark green foliage but fragrant as well. She is not as fragrant as, let's say, Mr. Lincoln, which a powerhouse of a rose, but she does have a mild fruity smell that is lovely in a bouquet. I have received so many compliments with this rose as it graces my front yard, and faces north, although she is in full sun, most of the summer months, which here last a whole two months. I planted this rose 4 years ago as a bare cane, and have benefited from her gorgeous blooms ever since. I highly recommend this rose to anyone who is looking for a marvelous rose that is unlike others in appearance and size. She is towering in my garden at over 5 ft high. I am not sure about anyone else green thumb ability, but I am not good with most plants, however, roses seem to love me, and I love them, they always grow well for me. Do yourself a favor and get Frida.
