One of the most frequent questions we get asked, is “what roses would you recommend for our area?” With thousands of roses on the market, narrowing the selection can be a daunting task. To provide some guidance, we have compiled a list of the Top 100 roses recommended for Pacific Northwest gardens.

While nearly every rose in our online catalog will grow west of the Cascades, we sought out those varieties that are “tried and true.” This list is a compilation of more than a dozen sources aimed at our specific growing region and includes recommendations from:

  • The Portland Rose Society
  • AARS Winners
  • Jackson and Perkins
  • The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens
  • Online research
  • Observations from our 7 acres of growing gardens and top sellers

Keep in mind, there are some wonderful roses out there that didn’t make the cut, so don’t be afraid to go off the list!

We selected only the most popular from a list of over 900 varieties of roses suggested for our area.

Generally, you will have good success with any of the following:

  • Albas
  • Rugosas
  • Species
  • Hybrid Musks
  • Kordesii varieties
  • David Austin English roses
  • Griffith Buck hardy roses
  • Meidiland shrub roses
  • Roses out of Heirloom’s hybridizing program have been specifically bred for improved disease resistance and fragrance.
