Named for the 19th century novel by Thomas Hardy. Blessed with magnificent fragrance, 'Jude the Obscure' 4" blooms (petals 40+) are large, cupped, old-fashioned, and of the highest quality and beauty. A lovely shade of rich, soft apricot, the outer petals of the fully double blooms may show a blush of pale yellow. Very free flowering, the blooms are produced on a strong, vigorous, well-shaped bush with mid-green foliage. It received the Corona Regina Teodelinda Perfume Award in Monza, Italy. Mr. Austin says "'Jude the Obscure' produces some of the most superb blooms you have ever seen" with the added benefit of its lovely, strong and unusual fragrance of lemon/myrrh and peach. Makes a good cut flower.

Most incredible fragrance

I purchased Jude the Obscure in the 1990's from Heirloom Rose, the previous owners had several Jude the Obscure roses when my husband and I walked by the roses we fell in love with the fragrance. Its sad that you no longer have them. I am looking forward to coming to see your place, I saw you on OPB today.

Exceptional!

I bought 2 “Jude’s” about 25 years ago. They have performed beyond my expectations every year! Even this year with horrible heat and a soggy Spring, they just keep me smiling!
They need very little attention and are disease free.

Stunning

I planted this rose in 2021 and it didn’t do much for the first two years, but wow. Year three and it has exploded. It’s just gorgeous. Twelve huge apricot-blush blooms and tons of new growth everywhere. I’ll definitely be adding another when I can.

The scent is divine!

This rose is a bit sensitive for my climate (South Florida), but when it produced blooms, it is pure delight! Not only it smells great, but it also has the longest life span in a vase. I think it is a wonderful investment as it will bring you much joy and satisfaction!

Worth Every Penny

I've been waiting to write this review until I got to experience Jude's first bloom and it has been worth the wait. This rose has been everything I've hoped for.

The wee little thing arrived at my home days before Xmas and was quickly tucked away into a large container w/ loads of nutrient-rich soil. I have just about zero experience with roses (or gardening for that matter!) but within a week or two tiny buds were waking up and starting to grow new leaves and changed the entire look of what was once just three canes and some tiny little stems at the bottom. By the end of January (one month later) it was a leafy happy plant soaking up all the bright zone 9b Arizona sunshine.

Two months later and I was seeing baby rosebuds. Here I am almost three months to the date after I planted it and the first of four rosebuds is opening and the smell is DIVINE. Highly fragrant, leaning very fruit-heavy (I'd say the peach/guava comparisons are most accurate to my nose). The color is the most attractive yellow peach. Pests don't seem to care for the plant and it's as healthy as can be.

I adore this rose. It has been on my list of things I'd love for ages but I kept thinking I could never grow anything quite as beautiful here in this heat. Granted, I've not experienced my first summer with Jude but I'll do anything to baby this thing.

It's a shame it is being discontinued, but if you see this and you still have the option to purchase... don't hesitate!
