Compassion produces the most beautiful, large, fully double, 4” blooms in a lovely shade of apricot, copper and gold. The flowers are profuse and cascade down this continually blooming Climber. Compassion can be grown as a Shrub if preferred. We love her for her marvelous honey and peach fragrance and we aren’t alone! Compassion is one of the RNRS winners of the Edland Medal for fragrance. She is an excellent choice for the cutting garden.

Central Texas
Compassion Rose

Arrived with green healthy defoliated canes per usual. Planted in ground during a bad heat spell (I know, not smart!) here in Zone 8B Central Texas end of October BUT...end of Dec 2023 gorgeous new growth, foliage, and 2 huge blooms. Blooms easily 5 inches across, a gorgeous bright pinkish gold color and the scent...perfection..strong, sweet, floral! 1 barely opened bloom can be smelled several feet away. Stunning.

2nd year stunner

Compassion gave me a few blooms first year, but exploded and shot up a huge cane to near six feet so far in her second year! I may have to move her in years to come. Color shifts beautifully and her scent is heavenly!

Anne in zone 6a: Update
Update: Finally Performing

I wrote an earlier review indicating my disappointment in this rose. The first 2 winters, there was dieback almost to the ground. The third summer, she grew to about 2-3 feet by July and produced a few roses but they were small and a faded dull pink. I now realize that the problem in summer 2022 was the lengthy heat wave we had. .Also, I added a light, diluted application of seaweed/fish emulsion (for the first time ever) in late August. In the cooler weather of September and October, this rose climbed to almost 6 feet and produced several large, lovely roses with rich color. I finally saw what others were talking about! I still haven’t seen the hues described by Heirloom on its website but it seems pretty clear the problem was too much heat and sun, and I believe this rose will do beautifully with more moderate temperatures.

Okay, doesn’t live up to the hype

The website stated that this rose would have 4” blossoms in a “lovely shade of apricot, copper and gold.”
I must have received a different rose.

After three years, there is one cane that is two feet high and, as of mid July during the third summer, there are three vigorous new canes that are about 14” high. Finally!

There have been only about four or five blossoms total in 2 and 1/2 summers, as the plant arrived spindly and then died back to the ground after the first year. But so far, NONE of the blossoms have been large. I’d say none have been more than about 2.75 inches.

This is a sweet little rose, and I think of her as a survivor. But there is nothing copper or gold or apricot about her! The blossoms are pale pink, an ordinary pale pink with some pale yellow at the center. Nothing special.

There is some fragrance, but it is mild – but perhaps this is due to the abundant rainfall we’ve been experiencing in Zone 5 this summer.

The soil in my area tends to be alkaline, lots of limestone,l. But for the roses I prepare extra-large holes with great soil and compost. And I add acidifying amendments each year to all the shrubs and trees, and to the roses during the second summer.

Overall, this rose is okay. Not great, but good enough. She’s young, and I’m willing to give her more time. But after three years, I have to admit it’s a very lackluster performance.

Exceptional Rose! VERY fragrant and beautiful too!

This rose is outstanding in fragrance and appearance! It is soft yellow on the outside, and peach interior. I am so excited to see how it does in the future since this is the first year I have owned. Didn't get to plant it until a month ago, and it is going crazy with blooms! Sigh! This is a winner!
