Oklahoma

Type: Hybrid Tea

The color is so dark red that it is nearly black velvet in warm weather. Long pointed buds open into huge, fully double 5" blooms (petals 30+) that are extremely fragrant with wonderfully strong, sweet old rose perfume. The bushy continual blooming plant is covered with leathery, dark green foliage. A vigorous grower. Makes a good cut flower.

I look for roses with 4-5" blooms, > 25 petals that are continuous bloomers and disease resistant with incredible fragrance. Oklahoma met these criteria so well, I purchased a second one! Blooms are perfect for cut flower displays. They are 5" across, velvety red-so dark and rich with a wonderful fragrance. Nice long stems, dark green leaves with good spacing. Using just the Alaska Fish Fertilizer and no pesticides, it is remarkably resistent and vigorous. Tolerates the North Texas Zone 8 heat, humidity and bitter cold. The roses are planted on the north side of the house and are thriving. (Posted on 10/3/2018)

This is its second year. The rose is very very dark and incredibly fragrant. Large, many petals I'm in n Zone 7b, Atlanta area, and the rose seems to love the heat and tolerates our clay soil well. So happy with this rose, it's healthy and seems to resist pests and problems. (The first rose died soon after planting, and Heirloom replaced it immediately last spring.) This one bloomed well into fall, managed to live through an unusually cold winter, and this year is spectacular both with number of blooms and size. I expect it will continue to do well throughout the summer as it did last year. (Posted on 5/13/2018)

I have planted many roses over several moves. I lived in Great Britain, where roses rule, and had a wonderful rose garden there, but I have NEVER EVER planted, cared for and loved ANY rose nearly as much as The Oklahoma from Heirloom. This truly is the rose of roses! (Posted on 5/2/2017)

I just received two okla. Roses, first time ordering from heirloom roses. I don't know yet how these will look full grown yet. Bought the one gallon size and am extremely pleased with how they ship the roses. Such great care is taken, not one broken stem and small leaves are coming out. The plants are green and healthy looking. And was so happy to see they use amend soil. Which is my preferred garden soil for vegetables and herbs. Can't wait to smell to smell the first bloom. Will give another review at that time. (Posted on 1/19/2017)
Oklahoma-Best Red RoseReview by CJ

This rose is the best example I have found of a red rose. Huge blooms and out of this world fragrance. I would recommend this rose to others. I have this one planted in my garden in AZ. It does well, just needs plenty of water, as expected. Makes great cut flowers too. We enjoy it's performance year after year. (Posted on 10/10/2014)
