  • Pollinator Friendly

Introduced in 1924, Penelope produces full trusses of creamy pink to yellow, semi-double, 4” blooms with 18+ petals. Her flowers open to show golden yellow centers with a strong, heady musk fragrance. Penelope is a very vigorous continual blooming bush with glossy foliage, but she doesn’t love to be pruned too harshly. Have a gentle hand at pruning time and this drought resistant beauty will thrive in zones 5-10.

Charming

These blooms are absolutely precious. On the smaller side, but full petaled, her scent is heavenly. She came to me as a very well developed plant for a bare root. Grew well in the first year and has done great through winter. I can’t wait to see her grow.

Penelope hedge

I made a hedge of Penelope Roses 20 years ago and it is beautiful. It has climbed into two tress at either end of the hedge and is easily maintained when I cut back every year, amass with flowers in spring and summer.
Vita Sackville West gave me the idea, from her book"The Illustrated Garden Book". It is a compilation of newspaper articles she wrote in the 1920's and she is a real gardener. Her husband and herself made the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle. Anyway, she recommended Penelope as a beautiful hedge rose and she was correct.

I Love this Rose!

Came to this site only to find Penelope out of stock. I've been growing this rose for years and hands down is my favorite! Strong spring bloomer with more light bloom in fall. Beautiful color and you can train it to any shape and size you want!

I want to plant a hedge of it in my new retirement home garden. Hope you get it back soon!
