Velvet Fragrance

Type: Hybrid Tea

Very possibly the most fragrant of all deep red roses. Large, beautifully shaped
4 1/2" blooms (petals 24+) double and a rich, very dark, velvety, crimson-red which holds well. Its sensational and almost overwhelming fragrance won for it the Edland Medal for Fragrance given by the Royal National Rose Society of England. Continual blooming with strong, healthy, robust growth and attractive, coppery green disease-resistant foliage. Magnificent in every way. Makes a good cut flower.

We are no longer growing Velvet Fragrance but will maintain this listing for reference purposes.

New Favorite RedReview by Lynn of the North

I just planted three Velvet Fragrance in May 2018, in full sunlight, Zone 5. It is a beautiful plant; strong, blooms often, beautiful sweet smelling roses that don't have week stems. The flowers are beautiful on the plant and last over a week after cutting. I love it's parent Fragrant Cloud, and it smells as good and is prettier. It is better than any other fragrant red rose I have had; much more floriferous than Mr. Lincoln, and a better shaped bush. I planted Chrysler Imperial and Oklahoma, and it easily beats them both. Hopefully it will deal with the Zone 5 winter well. (Posted on 9/6/2018)

I am in zone 8B, south Georgia, an hour from Savannah. This rose is PERFECT in every way; color, fragrance, gorgeous blooms + continual blooming. Please grow this 1 again! It's a MUST HAVE for me! As always Heirloom Roses does a wonderful job of sending out these beauties to all of us plus letting us know when our favorites are back in stock. Many thanks to HR!! (Posted on 5/12/2018)

Gotta have it.Review by DixieDinah

I have one--and I want another. This is an absolutely beautiful rose--the color, the form--in addition to that wonderful, "velvety" fragrance. My 87-year-old father is in love with it so I want to plant one closer to his morning walking "trail." If you don't have this red rose, you want it. (Posted on 1/11/2017)

This was the very first rose I have ordered from this site. I love it for its sweet scent. The only thing about my rose is that when the flower had opened it was violet color instead of advertized red, but I love it any way. Now I have 4 different rose bushes, today ordering the fifth one. They are blooming in my basemet in this freezing NY weather. (Posted on 12/10/2016)

I got this rose 3 years ago and love it. Mines is still small but the fragrance on a warm summer night is strong and wonderful. (Posted on 4/4/2016)
