Stopping Power!Review by Paula

My 2 Westerlands have only been in the ground a few months and were a bit slow to leaf back up and bloom. However, now that they have adjusted, they going strong and blooming in such a magnificent shade of coral that strangers come up into my yard for a closer look. Great scent - very distinct! Fast grower. Great for any climbing growth on trellis etc. Nice bloom with great disease resistance. No blackspot like other climbers I have grown. Bloom large and fragrant. (Posted on 8/14/2017)

I love the vibrant orange of Westerland! Mine is bright orange with yellow centers. It starts off looking bright red as it buds, but comes out a beautiful deep orange with pink and yellow centers. It's beautiful! I planted mine in memory of my precious Mama, LInda, who loved orange roses. I love you Mama! (Posted on 8/13/2017)

I brought my first Westerland rose last year. This is the second year and she has performed beautifully. Lots of beautiful roses, wonderful fragrance, very little black spot. What else could you want. I'm sitting here writing this review with three blooms in a vase next to me, life is good. (Posted on 8/3/2017)
Stunning Color and Scent!Review by CVM Shepherd

We moved away from our first Westerland, so had to add one to the garden at the new house. It's my favorite. Stunning, vibrant color, and wonderful scent! It arrived in May, shortly after our move, and I had it in the ground the day after it arrived. Here it is, early July, the foliage has come out very well, and I now see three buds! I followed the directions that came with the nearly-bare plant when it arrived, adding a bit of sheep manure to amend our not-so-great soil. I'm very happy and can't wait to see the flowers! I wasn't really sure about ordering these roses due to the color - wasn't sure how it would fit in with the rest of my colors but the reviews were so good I couldn't resist. I bought two smaller plants. One has grown significantly in just a few weeks and has already got several blooms and many more buds. The other one has been slower to take. I have to say the color is spectacular. I can see them before ever heading out into my yard. I think this rose is going to be a favorite as it grows and fills out. (Posted on 6/13/2017)

Trying to grow roses organically in the southern US is a challenge. This rose came back from the seemingly dead and is now lovely again in dry partial shade in my backyard. With insect soap, milk spray for any hints of mildew, and vigilance, hoping for an even better show next year. (Posted on 5/3/2017)
My All Time FavoriteReview by Norita Bonin

I have had this climbing rose for over over 15 years. It is my favorite rose ever. It blooms throughout the season and tolerates shade and cold winters. Mine is on the east end of the house so it gets morning sun. I moved this past year to a small cottage and I was thinking of planting just one Heirloom Rose. This is the one I picked. I am in planting zone 5.

I had Westerland in two places I lived before, now again in a third place, all in Zone 7 Virginia. It is large, can be grown as climber but I let it cascade. It is as easy as a shrub rose but more beautiful. Clusters as well as singles. Unusual color, copper-pink mixture that changes some with season. I love the scent, it's not overwhelming but very pleasant kind of lemony. The bush form is beautiful. The new leaves especially are coppery color too. The bush has lots of big thorns though. It will form some hips if you don't deadhead. It gets the usual black spot in my area but doesn't hurt the bush. Prolific bloomer especially if it likes the spot. World-class. (Posted on 12/10/2016)

Westerland grows fast and tall, she needs plenty of water and food. She blooms in May and September in my area, the fragrance is marvelous. While the Westerland is shade tolerant she needs morning sun and afternoon shade in hot climates. The plant is very disease resistant but bugs love her sweet sap, be prepared to spray for aphids and thrips. (Posted on 3/29/2015)
