Wise Portia

Type: David Austin

A much overlooked and truly wonderful English rose. Superbly beautiful double blooms open to show lovely shades of purple and mauve with golden centers. At their best they are hard to beat. A heavy blooming variety that will be a standout in your garden. Rich fragrance. There are very few roses in this color shade. Should be included in your garden. Continuous blooming.

The best rose I growReview by Ellen
Rating
I too was charmed by the name of this rose, then surprised by its beauty. I chose it for fragrance and disease resistance--I wasn't looking for a fuschia pink rose--but I found the color beautifully complements the orange Westerland rose that grows near it as well as some salmon-colored alstromeria and blue-purple geraniums. The fragrance is very strong and the rose holds up well in a vase. I've also found this rose pretty disease resistant. I grow it in a zone 10 garden on California's Central coast. It blooms in flushes and at times is bursting with flowers; the only drawback of this bush is that I need wire stem supports for the branches once the clusters start to unfold--but that's an easy fix! I would gladly order another. (Posted on 9/4/2018)
Great colorReview by Rozzz

I bought this years ago from Heirloom, mostly because of the name (I like the Shakespeare character theme). I was greatly surprised how vibrant the color was in my zone 7b garden. It is more of a fuschia color, a little more purple than the photos suggest, and a real standout in my rose bed of soft apricots and pinks. Very healthy and minimal spraying for blackspot so far (4 years). I highly recommend this variety! (Posted on 4/23/2018)
